katami

The collection Katami is inspired by research into amulets, superstitions and the way people relate to key objects. The research stems from personal beliefs, heirlooms and amulets in addition to those from other cultures in particular Japan. ‘Katami’ is the Japanese word used to describe a keepsake, memento or heirloom. The imagery in this collection is digitally printed onto silk combined with embroidery and wood. The introduction of stones is also important and as often is the case with jewellery across many cultures has underlying amuletic or superstitious connotations such as the pearl.
